Let's make a motion activated prop!

I'm only barely qualified to lead in the simplest possible "hack" of a motion sensor. We did this at a make and take in my house back before we started using the lab.
The idea is to take a normal motion activated security light and convert it so it will trigger any prop you can plug into the wall.

Here's what you need to bring:
    A Motion Activated Light
A Socket to Outlet Adapter or two
    A grounded extension cord
If you have wirenuts, you should bring those. If not, there are some at the lab.
Bring something to "trigger". No, not a Millenial. Even a lamp will do, really.

I linked a specific light because it has a variable "on time", so your prop does not just run for 10 minutes every time it's triggered. I don't care what brand you choose, and I think WalMart has one for the same price that has that feature. Maybe Lowe's does, too.

We will use the extension cord to power the motion sensor. So, we're going to cut it. I linked to a 3' cord, but any length is fine. If you know you want to put your trigger 10 feet from the outlet, then you know you need a longer cord to sacrifice to this project.

This is a crazy simple hack, so if you are hesitant about getting into "electronics", this may be the simplest possible way to start.

    Interested? Let me know!

    Great!
There is no RSVP function, so we just reply in the forum. See you there!
