    I love the atmosphere fire brings to Halloween. Colored flames are even cooler, but a colored flame vortex? How cool is that?



    Pretty sweet effect. In a haunt, I'd want the turntable part to be hidden. Perhaps it would be under a table or under the floor. Anywhere it could not be seen. The fire itself could rise up out of a cauldron, or just about anything else.

    How would you use this vortex?

  2. YouTube Science! Part 2 - Black Fire

    This is one of the most impressive demonstrations I have ever seen. It makes an actual flame that actually appears black!



    Oh yes, my sodium vapor light has been ordered, I can assure you. A room lit in yellow could definitely fit in a haunt - a cave, a basement, a shack, they all work for me.

    I'm not going to lecture anyone about fire safety. There is no doubt your fire marshal would NOT approve of this. So, just

  3. YouTube Science! Part 1 - Musou Black Paint

    Over the weekend, this video from "The Action Lab" was blowing up all the Haunt related pages:


    At about $180 per liter, plus shipping from Japan, I guess, it's not something most haunters could do large scale. The author did not mention how much he actually used for that little room, but he had 5 liters to use. Roughly $1,000 in paint alone.

    Now, for about $40 you can buy five gallons of flat black paint.

  4. The Hidden Mother

    Photography buffs may already know about the “hidden mother” in early photographs, but some others may not. Shown are excellent examples of this 19th century phenomenon.
    Apparently, most infants during that time were photographed with their mothers holding them. The intended picture was ultimately headed for a frame or mat, so the child would sit in the mothers lap for the photo. When the picture was taken, the mother simply was cropped out to serve as the backdrop.
