  1. The Masks of The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh

    I was recently made aware of Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow - a Disney movie based on the 1915 Dr. Syn novels of Russell Thorndike.

    The movie is a pretty straightforward Scarlett Pimpernell / Zorro / Green Hornet story of a masked vigilante who is a respectable part of society but is also secretly the wanted man. It's a fine movie for the family to enjoy if you can find it. However, what I loved are the masks and costumes.

  2. It's Surreal!

    "Nightmares" are a popular them for haunts that want to do everything from clowns to dinosaurs to zombies. They are fun and anything can happen. Still, is that really how nightmares are? In a nightmare, aren't you likely to be in your childhood home when Bigfoot comes out the closet door and chases you over the water to the island, where you hop on your motorcycle and discover the ground is made of marshmallow and you are naked? Or something like that. Maybe it's just me.

  3. Small Beginnings

    Fans of Manga may be familiar with the name Junji Ito. He has authored several horror works, including Uzumaki, which has also been made into a movie.

    I bring this up because of the premise of Uzumaki. A town is under a curse involving spirals. As a result, the people of the town are obsessed with and paranoid of spirals. There's a whole plot with a character's hair starting to spiral and draining life energy and so on. The concept I'd like to extract here is how this escalates, ...

  4. Random Thoughts

    I tend to lean to the theoretical. I was told in a high school class I was very abstract and should be more "concrete". Maybe. Still, when I see interesting pictures, I like to imagine how they might be re-created in real life, in real time. Of course, for the purposes of this forum, I think how they might be useful in a haunt. I usually end up thinking more in terms of atmosphere and story, rather than pop scares.
